Born in Japan; live and work in Berlin.
Researching local histories inspires my artworks/exhibitions, and I create sculptures and multimedia installations specific to a locale’s particular identity. Through my works, I attempt to celebrate life, humanity and our environment while simultaneously shining a fresh light on human behaviour.
I was raised in Borneo, Malaysia, until the age of 4. I have led a nomadic existence since the day I returned to Japan when I was 4.
My work has developed around the concept of “ubiety”, an archaic word used to describe the condition or quality of being in a place, of being located or situated.
Since the Great East Japan earthquake of March 11, 2011, my activities have focused on local identity and humanity more than before.

Through the global COVID-19 pandemic, I have become aware that human economic activities have seriously and continuously broken a sustainable harmonious environment over the past several decades. Human beings should possess a sense of their “innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life”. (by Edward O. Wilson, Biophilia)
Where are human beings currently heading? What will life in the near future be like? How can we heal our environment?
The pandemic gave me a big impact. I found a new keyword “Biophilic Future” for developing my further works that merge my practices and real daily life.
And now, my interest is shifting from my own identity to “our” identity as human beings who live on this planet.
Exhibitions of note from recent years include: “The journey of stones, mountain” (solo, Chrom VI, Idar-Oberstein, Germany 2021), “Sound from the Golden Age” (solo, Harris Gallery University of La Verne, CA, USA 2021), “Stone will flow, leaves will sink” (solo, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany 2018) “Why is that view so interesting” (solo, Fuchu Art Museum, Performance Art Project No. 68, Tokyo, 2016) “Tea Talks” (solo, Bradwolff Projects, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2016) “Rainy Alley” / “I’m here” (Setouchi International Art Festival, Kagawa, 2010/2013) and others. I have also created public art pieces in several locations around Japan. I was a recipient of a fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council in 2012-2013 New York, US, and Overseas Study Program for Artists Fellow, Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan in 2018-2019.
EDUCATION: 1994-96 Graduated the Master of Art at the Musashino Art University graduate course, 1991-94 Graduated the Bachelor at the Musashino Art University under graduate course.

場所特有の文化、歴史、日常風景からインスピレーションを得て、彫刻、写真、映像をつかったインスタレーションで、わたしたちの生命や存在、いまある環境をたたえる作品をつくっています。
私は生後5ヶ月から4歳までマレーシアのボルネオで育ち、日本に帰国した頃からノマディックな感覚を持ち続けています。私の作品は、”Ubiety” – ある場所に在る質や状況を表す現在ではもうほとんど知られることのないラテン語の古い言葉をモチベーションの根底として制作されています。
2011年の東日本大震災以降、わたしの活動は、サイトスペシフィック・インスタレーションとリサーチベースのアートプロジェクトを融合したものへとひろがり、さらに日常、場所、場所特有のアイデンティティ、人の属性について焦点をあてるようになりました。
コロナウィルスのパンデミックをとおして、わたしたちの経済活動が過去何十年にもわたって地球環境を深刻に破壊しつづけてきたことが明白になってきました。本来わたしたち”人間は、自然やそのほかの生命との繋がりを得ようとする内在的傾向を有している。”はずなのに。(by Edward O. Wilson, Biophilia 1986)
人間はどこに向かっているのだろう？どんな未来が待っているのだろう？どうしたらわたしたちの環境を癒すことができるんだろう？
パンデミックはわたしに大きな衝撃を与えました。わたしは、わたしの制作と日常生活を融合していくためにも、”Biophilic Future”という新しいキーワードを見出しました。
そして現在、私の興味は、私個人のアイデンティティーではなく、この惑星に住む人間としての”私たちの”アイデンティティーへとシフトしてきています。
